Jill told Rocket she was going upstairs to take care of a few things, and when she came back down he either had to have finished his lunch or he'll get a spanking. After she went upstairs Rocket told me he'd rather have the spanking then finish eating. I told him to go tell Jill that. As he got off his stool he said, "Okay. I will try not to cry, but I might cry. But then I will just say GET BEHIND ME TEARS!" and when he said this last part he leaned toward me with very wide eyes, so emphatic. It was hilarious.
At one point Jill and I were talking about how delightful snow days are, and Sola (11 years old) pointed out that they are also dangerous because of falling icicles. She stated, matter-of-factly, "I have to watch Rocket and Zoey and make sure they don't play under the icicles, because they don't know what it means to be killed."
One evening Sola read to me from the Calvin & Hobbes book I got her for her birthday. Harrison (12 years old, amazing memory) came in and asked us to turn to page 194 because that's the strip where Hobbes says "Heck no!" For whatever reason Harrison thinks that's hilarious, and I think it's amazing that he remembers the page number.
